The Phyletic Museum, founded in 1907 by Ernst Haeckel, is a unique museum in Jena. Its name is derived from phylogeny, i.e. the history of the family – a term that Haeckel himself coined. Visit our fascinating museum and stay up to date with the latest research into evolution.

Closed on December 24, 25, 31 and January 1 and on public holidays that fall on a Monday.

Kindergarten groups
Free admission for kindergarten groups and their accompanying persons.
Free admission for children under the age of 6 and for students of the Faculty of Biology and Pharmacy of the FSU Jena as well as for members of the Friends’ Association.
Guided tours for kindergarten groups: 15€

Please note that only cash payment is possible.
The museum is located on the edge of Jena’s city center and there are several relatively nearby parking options. The museum can be reached within a few minutes from the Westbahnhof and Paradiesbahnhof stations.
BARRIER-FREE ACCESS
The museum can be accessed with a wheelchair from the rear. Barrier-free access to the courtyard is available from Schillergässchen or Neugasse; however, the paths are paved with stones and there are inclines (Schillergässchen maximum approx. 8%, Neugasse maximum approx. 15%). A barrier must also be opened from Neugasse (please call the ticket office).
